Located in the residential downtown area of Covington; walking distance to restaurants, a rail trail, Farmer’s Market and downtown. This small town, located north of New Orleans, is filled with wonderful locally owned restaurants, festivals of all sorts, live music, city block parties, and is an outdoor paradise with the Bogue Falaya River running through it. There are kayak rentals to spend the day on the river or rent a bike and ride the Tammany Trace, which connects to surrounding towns on the Northshore. For families, you can visit Global Wildlife in nearby Folsom, LA where you’ll encounter ~3,500 exotic animals from all around the world! Are you brave enough to hold a hatching gator in your hands? Then you can visit the Insta-Gator Ranch & Hatchery located in Covington. Gator life not your thing? Then be sure to visit the Bogue Falaya park with meandering paths along the river, a kayak launch, and a community-built playground for the kids to play on. But first stop by Butter Krisp Donuts and load up on these deliciously dangerous treats! Some of our favorite eateries are sprinkled throughout the town. Pizza Man serves hand-tossed pizzas! Be sure to dine-in and let the kids watch the tossing show through the glass window, with the jukebox playing old tunes. Coffee Rani has something for everyone from pastas, to sandwiches, to outstanding salads. You’ll enjoy the dessert case options as well…be sure not to pass on the coconut cake! Get a real sense of what life in the bayou is like by eating at Chimes restaurant on the Bogue Falaya River. Boardwalks lead to the river where you can head out on a river adventure in a kayak rental. If finer dining is more your forte, Del Porto, Lola, or Dakota will please your tastebuds. Abita Roasting or Matina Bella will begin your days with a fantastic breakfast! Too many restaurants to name them all. Trust us, you won’t starve!
But if that’s not enough for you to explore, you can visit New Orleans just 40 miles south of Covington. You’ll use the 24-mile long bridge to cross Lake Pontchartrain to get to the southshore. There you can continue your exploration of the unique culture of south Louisiana. Enjoy beignets at the historic, iconic Cafe Du Monde, and stroll the streets of the French Quarter where you’ll find unique art, street performers, and uniquely New Orleans shops. Be sure to visit the St Louis Cathedral. Dine in some of the finest restaurants in the world, or take a walk along the mighty Mississippi River. To assure the kids have a great time, visit the riverfront New Orleans Aquarium and be sure to stop by the Audubon Zoo too! And for a sweet treat on those hot summer days, don’t pass up a cold New Orleans’ snoball or a New Orleans Daquiri for the adults! Catch a game in the Superdome or shop along Magazine Street. Be sure to ride the streetcar along St. Charles Ave.
