MT Nest - Secluded Cottage on the New River!

Welcome to MT Nest!

MT Nest is a private, three-bedroom, two-bath, rustically updated cottage located directly on the New River! AND...only 30 minutes from Appalachian Ski Mountain! Your stay will include not only the seclusion you are searching for, but also the convenience of being just a few miles to all of the local attractions of Boone and the surrounding area, including private fishing access just steps away from the front door, hiking, kayaking, tubing, skiing, App State University, and more!

Our riverside home is located in Raven Rock Meadows, a quiet little community just a short drive from 421 and very close to state-maintained roads (4WD is a good idea in the winter). On the last few miles of your drive to MT Nest, you will see the lovely river valley and a beautiful cattle farm. Just before you cross over the community bridge and over the river, you will see stunning rock formations and great fishing spots! You will enjoy all the views before you even arrive for your tranquil getaway!

MT Nest is less than two miles away from the nearest state-maintained road, and the drive from there to the cottage is mainly flat and navigable during winter weather. There are a few small hills, so a four-wheel drive vehicle in the winter is a good idea. Our circular driveway is fairly steep. We work hard to keep it well maintained, offering the best access possible. It wouldn't be a true mountain cottage without a few hills to navigate, right!

Peace And Quiet
We started renting cabins 10 years ago on our 25th wedding anniversary. This place is what we have been searching for the entire time! We sat out on the deck all day and never heard a car, traffic noise, neighbors, or anything else. Just the river, the birds and the occasional deer or turkey. We've been looking for this spot for ten years. I hope that wecan continue to come back here many, many times. The hosts are super nice and extremely accommodating. They were available for any and every question or need and even presented us with a gift for iur 35th anniversary. We love this little piece of heaven!

Great getaway in Boone
We had a great time staying at this property. The house was great, plenty of room for everyone, comfortable beds, all the pots pans and dishes you need. I couldn’t figure out how to work the single cup coffee maker but I didn’t mention it to the host. Maybe it was just me. I will say we kinda thought the river was right behind the house but it’s across the street. You can still access it and fish to your hearts content and you can see it from the hot tub or deck. The hot tub was nice and bigger than some of the other places I’ve stayed you can actually get two adults in there without feeling cramped. Overall I would definitely recommend and we’d stay here again if we return to Boone. My 8 year old was obsessed with the oil lamp and immediately said it was the best cabin ever.

Serene nest
We really enjoyed the serenity of MT Nest. We loved listening to the birds, the river, the wind through the trees while watching the sunlight sparkle off the river in the mornings. Both porches facing east/toward the river provided gorgeous morning views through the trees. Porch seating was very comfy. We would have loved a table to eat outside. We enjoyed the outdoor kitchen amenities, fire pit, & hot tub! New River is crystal clear. We appreciated 2 sets of towels: bathing and river/hot tub. Bath towels are too small; River/hot tub towels are good size. The welcome book is very comprehensive. A PDF w/ info in advance would be helpful (e.g., instructions to leave all towels clean and dry.) Host more than happy to adjust thermostat for us (remotely only). Kitchen was generally well supplied and came w/ spices/condiments. Surprisingly, there were only 8 dinner/8 salad plates and 8 bowls which was inconvenient. We appreciated the quality of the bed linens, TP and paper towels as well as the provided laundry and dishwasher detergent. The upstairs does not cool as effectively as downstairs and we were grateful for both floor and ceiling fans. The primary bathroom was a very hot place with no air register or fan of its own. Would happily stay again with minor adjustments as per above. Hosts are spectacular about both hospitality and communication. We enjoyed the complementary wine and s'mores kit! Your stress will melt away at MT Nest.

Beautiful location and comfy decor
We loved the view of the New River! It rained for half our weekend stay, but we got to use the fire pit to make Smores and do a little fishing by the water. The hot tub was great as well. There were also plenty of games to play. I loved the decor. It was such a perfect mix of classic and new. The oil rain lamp brought me back to my childhood!
