Altausee is a small village set in a beautiful valley on the shores of Lake Altausee. This is the heart of Austria, and close to the centre point of the mountainous country. The village of less than 2,000 inhabitants is picture postcard perfect, with well maintained wooden houses, almost all bedecked with flower boxes and hanging baskets. "We enjoyed staying at this resort. We stayed in one of the larger rooms in the main lodge. The place was huge! One bathroom, washer/dryer, two beds, a living room, kitchen and a perfect balcony with a view of the lake and mountains. "This property is beautiful, however be aware that you need to pay for every little thing once on site. If you run out of soap, dishwasher pods, want clean towels, or in our case, need more toilet paper, it all costs extra. I don’t mind having to pay for some things, but I’ve never been asked to pay for toilet paper anywhere else in the world and I have to say, it slightly soured my experience. "Seriously the best location in Hallstatt. One of our windows faced the lake. The other window faced the famous church. What a view! We can see sunrise and market crowd and ferry traffic below us everyday. We can walk to any location conveniently because we are right in the center of town. The room is spacious and quiet. The bed was soft and comfortable. They provided L’Occitane products which were amazing. Quality tea bags with loose tea leaves. Breakfast was quality. Oh we even tried out the sauna which was private and cool! Friendly staff. All in all the best hotel for our honeymoon! "
